2021 Race Postponed to Oct. 30, 2021

Hey Runners!

We regret to have to announce we have postponed the 2021 Door County Half Marathon because of the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. The race, originally scheduled for May 1, has been moved to Oct. 30, 2021.

“We have been closely monitoring the pace of vaccinations and the trends in the pandemic, hoping we could proceed with this event in May,” said race director Brian Fitzgerald. “But at this time, we are unable to obtain the necessary permits, confidently plan to be able to recruit staff and volunteers, and make the investments necessary to stage this event in Peninsula State Park.”

In watching the trends in the pandemic and consulting with public health, sponsors, and medical professionals in Door County, we are confident that we will be able to stage the event in October.

Race co-founder David Eliot said, “Delaying the event is an unfortunate necessity, but the fall weather in Door County offers optimal conditions for a run, and we are looking forward to runners once again returning for the race and to experience all our community has to offer.”

Delaying this race is a great disappointment to us, but public health and safety is far more important than our disappointment. That first Saturday in May has been such a wonderful celebration of the park, of our community, and of running. We want to celebrate with you all again, and will be dedicated to making October an amazing experience for everyone.

Runners who have already signed up for the May 1 event do not need to do anything additional to participate. They will automatically be transferred to the new date. Organizers have also provided options for registered runners who cannot make the Oct. 30 date. They may transfer to the 2022 race or receive a free transfer if they sell their bib to another runner. To do so or if you have any questions, please email jordan@peninsulapacers.com.

As soon as it is safe to host events again here in Door County, we will be looking for opportunities to bring people together on foot, bikes, and skates again!

Keep running – we’ll get there!

“I have run several races – and quite honestly this is the one of the best supported run ever. You do an EXCELLENT JOB on all levels. The support is amazing. The volunteers exceptional. I have ZERO complaints or suggestions.”

Sara Frizelle

“I have done a few half marathons around the midwest and this is by far the best. The organization and communication is fantastic and so are the facilities and race perks. The route is also ideal: starting flat, allowing for the body to acclimate ; followed by a steep incline and then down hill once the body gets a little fatigued. I love it!”

Margaret Pennoyer

“I’ve raced all over the world and The Door County Half Marathon is one of my favorites.  It’s very well organized, it’s in the heart of beautiful and peaceful Door County, and the course rolls through some of the most picturesque half marathon miles in the world.”
