SCHNEIDERS REPEAT AS HALF MARATHON CHAMPS

Schneider Repeats as Door County Half Marathon Champ
Appleton’s Rodee Schneider won his second Door County Half Marathon today in the 7th edition of the run in Peninsula State Park.

Schneider, 32, paced a pack that welcomed the sun after a long, cold winter. Large ice shoves still dotted the shoreline, providing runners a once in a lifetime May view as they rounded the turn at mile 12.

Schneider finished in 1:14:32. Damian Bednorz of Chicago finished second in 1:15:47, while Scott Mueller of Pewaukee took third in 1:16:10.

The women’s side of the field also had a familiar face in first. Molly Schneider (no relation to Rodee) of Madison repeated as well, finishing in 1:27:50. The 27 year-old set the course record in 2013. Jennifer Chaudoir of Green Bay finished second in 1:28:39. Annie Bley of Egg Harbor finished third in 1:30:10.

In the Nicolet Bay 5k, Trent Evans of Cottage Grove set a new course record of 16:06. The 24 year-old needed every bit of his effort to hold off 45 year-old Roy Pugsley of Potomac Falls, VA who finished in 16:11.

The top female finisher was Allison Arndt, who finished in 18:48 to outpace Heather Tuttle Copela, 42, of De Pere, who finished in 20:44.

More than 2,050 runners signed up for this year’s race, the largest field in the event’s history. An additional 610 signed up for the Nicolet Bay 5k.

The event’s 40 Run For A Cause participants raised more than $20,000 for charity this year, bringing the 5-year program total to nearly $70,000.

“I have done a few half marathons around the midwest and this is by far the best. The organization and communication is fantastic and so are the facilities and race perks. The route is also ideal: starting flat, allowing for the body to acclimate ; followed by a steep incline and then down hill once the body gets a little fatigued. I love it!”

Margaret Pennoyer

“I’ve raced all over the world and The Door County Half Marathon is one of my favorites.  It’s very well organized, it’s in the heart of beautiful and peaceful Door County, and the course rolls through some of the most picturesque half marathon miles in the world.”
