Molly Schneider sets new women’s course record
On a sunny, windless day perfect for running, Rodee Schneider would not be denied.
The Appleton runner and veteran of four Door County Half Marathons finally got his piece of the finisher’s tape, winning the 6th annual race going away in 1:13:31 on May 4.
Schneider finished fourth in 2008, 2011, and 2012. Since 2008 he has improved his time by 11:40.
The man who finished second, 32 seconds behind Schneider, has also been a bridesmaid at the race. Francis Flanagan finished second in 2010 and sixth in 2011.
On the women’s side, Molly Schneider set a new women’s’ course record, blistering the roads of Peninsula State Park in 1:25:30 to beat Krista Cornelius’s time of 1:26:09 from 2009.
In the Nicolet Bay 5k, Brian Busse of Germantown moved to the top spot after finishing second in 2012, taking the tape in 17:38, the fourth best time recorded in the event. Michelle Finnel, this sister of last year’s half marathon winner Brian Finnel, paced the women in 20:30, the second best time for a woman in the history of the event.
A record 1,576 runners finished the 6th annual running of the race, with an additional 493 finishing the Nicolet Bay 5k.
