Run For A Cause Runner Profile
Name: Michelle Page Alswager, Madison, Wis.
Running for: Riding on Insulin
Inspiration: My son, Jesse, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 3 years old. On Feb. 3, 2010, he died unexpectedly of his disease.
I have always been an advocate for diabetes research and funding, but in April of 2013 it became my job when I joined the Riding on Insulin team.
Riding On Insulin is a nonprofit based in Whitefish, Montana that operates programs for kids, teens and adults living with type 1 diabetes in four countries around the world. The organization empowers and activates the global diabetes community through shared experience and action sports, instilling resilience in participants.
ROI founder, Sean Busby, started the camps in 2005 and my son was very close to him. When Sean flew in from Utah to deliver the eulogy for my son, he met my Wisconsin co-worker, Mollie. They married on Sept. 24, 2011. That what would have been Jesse’s 15th birthday.
Now Mollie and I along with Sean put on camps for kids with type 1 diabetes in four countries.
