We regret to announce that we have made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the Oct. 31, 2020 Door County Half Marathon.
We know how much you love this race, and you know that we love to host you in Peninsula State Park each year. We had hoped that by moving the event to October we would be able to put on a great run, but given all the logistical challenges still in place, we are unable to do so.
This event requires tremendous resources including more than a dozen buses and shuttles to transport runners to and from the park, hundreds of volunteers, assistance from local first responders and medical professionals, and permission from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for use of the state park.
Present guidance from the Wisconsin Department of Public Health advises against large gatherings, and those of 50 or more are considered high risk. Bringing more than 2,000 runners to the park would clearly be a risky proposition. Our team at the Peninsula Pacers spends all year making plans to put on great races and events, to get people moving, to celebrate the best of our community, and this is the latest tough call for us in a year full of difficult decisions. Earlier this year we canceled the Hey Hey 5k, Peninsula Century bike rides, Door County Beer Festival, and Door County Wine Festival.
But we are dedicated to getting back to doing so in 2021, and doing it better than ever.
Runners will receive an email with details on the status of registrations for this year’s run, and those who signed up early for the 2021 race. Please check your spam filter if you don’t see the email.
We can’t wait to see you next year. Until then, stay safe, healthy, and keep running!
